Mahyad Tousi is a New York based independent producer, cinematographer, writer, entrepreneur, and story architect. As a filmmaker, he has worked in 30 countries spanning all five continents with top-level international talent and on multiple award winning projects. A self-proclaimed ‘story junkie’, he has worked in a variety of formats and genres, including narrative and documentary features, serialized TV dramas, fine art video installations for galleries and museums across the world, interactive comic books and graphic novels for the mobile/tablet space, and as a cinematographer in multiple conflict zones. Six years ago, he founded BoomGen Studios with his friend and cofounder Reza Aslan—a NY and Los Angeles based Transmedia story factory and incubator of commercial entertainment, with the goal of mining the greatest yet untapped reservoir of storytelling in the universe: west/central Asia. He is also the long time collaborator and cinematographer of the world-renowned artist Mika Rottenberg (Cheese, Fried Sweat, Squeeze, Seven).
Mahyad is currently working exclusively in the Transmedia space, where he is producing story experiences across multiple media canvases and designing audience engagement on the web and in the mobile/tablet space. Mahyad studied filmmaking at NYU, history and philosophy at GMU, and from time-to-time shows up as a guest lecturer for the MFA program at the City College of NY. He also frequently appears as a speaker and panelist on the shifting paradigm of storytelling and the convergence of entertainment and technology.
